Opened in 1911 in a building first constructed as a horse exchange, converted by the Shuberts into a theatre. Cats played the house from 1982 to 2000. It is one of only two active Broadway houses with a Broadway street address.

The house is in the Theater District, within walking distance of the Times Square-42nd Street subway and transit hub.
